Gateway Grants - Non CRA Grant Program

The CITY OF DELAND, through the MainStreet DeLand Association, has extended the application period for its Gateway Grant Program from September 23, to Tuesday, October 8. This is a competitive grant program designed to encourage building improvements within the designated Gateway Districts of the City of DeLand. This matching grant program is available to property owners that renovate commercial properties in these Gateway Districts. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5,000. Gateway Business Improvement Grant Application

Download the application (after downloading you may have to click “print” to make the form interactive), enter the required information in the fillable boxes, attach all required documentation, print, sign and submit to the MainStreet DeLand Association, Fish Building, 100 N. Woodland Boulevard, First Floor - Suite 4, DeLand. A total of $20,000 in grant funds is available to be awarded through the City Gateway Grant Program. Additional information

Unless there are unusual circumstances, work on grant projects may not commence before the grant application is approved by the DeLand City Commission and required permits and forms filed with MainStreet DeLand Association.  

PLEASE NOTE: It is the full expectation that all awarded grant projects will be completed with all documentation specified as necessary for payment submitted to the City of DeLand no later than September 30, 2020.

Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. is the deadline for submitting completed applications for funding to MainStreet DeLand Association. It is anticipated that the MainStreet Grant Review Committee will meet in October and that grant applications will be considered for approval by the DeLand City Commission in late October or early November 2019.

Downtown DeLand Grant Programs

At least once per year and contingent upon funding, the CITY OF DELAND, through the MainStreet DeLand Association, provides six competitive grant programs designed to encourage building improvements within the downtown redevelopment area. Also contingent upon funding the City provides a Gateway Grant Program.

A detailed summary of each grant program and maps of the CRA and Gateway Districts are provided below or at the MainStreet DeLand website www.MainStreetDeLand.org.

Downtown CRA Map

Lighting Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners and merchants for providing safe, pedestrian friendly exterior store front lighting and also for providing rear building lighting. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $1, 000.

Downtown Lighting Improvement Grant Application

Residential Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that create new residential units. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5,000.

Downtown Residential Incentive Grant Application

Retail Grants

Matching Grants are available that are designed to assist downtown property owners that create or retain existing retail business or convert office/service occupancy to retail. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2,500.

Downtown Retail Grant Application

Upper Floor Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that refurbish upper floors for use as retail, office, service or residential or any combination of these categories. Creation of storage or warehouse space is not eligible. Projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5,000.

Downtown Upper Floor Rehabilitation Grant Application

Façade Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that rehabilitate exterior facades, particularly store fronts.  Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2,500.

Downtown Facade Improvement Grant Application

Underutilized Building Grants - CRA

Grants are available to downtown property owners that rehabilitate buildings that have been vacant for two or more years.  Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 25% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $30,000. Due to funding limitations, the maximum amount that may be awarded this fiscal year is $20,000

Downtown Underutilized Building Grant Application

Green Options Supplement for City Grants

In an effort to encourage environmentally friendly projects a “Green Options Supplement” may be applied for as part of all grant applications in the Downtown DeLand CRA and the Gateway Grant programs. This program will provide an additional incentive to grantees if their projects follow energy efficient construction practices. In order to qualify the grantees must provide required documentation.

Gateway Grants - Non CRA Grant Program

Matching Grants are available to property owners that renovate commercial properties in the Gateway Districts in the City of DeLand. Please note that businesses within the Downtown CRA District are excluded from the gateway classifications and, therefore, are not eligible to apply for Gateway Grant funding. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5,000.

Additional Information

Unless there are unusual circumstances, work on grant projects may not commence before the grant application is approved by the Community Redevelopment Agency, and required permits and forms filed with MainStreet Deland Association.  

The amount of the grant award may be increased for projects following “green construction guidelines.”  The application form should clearly stipulate that the green supplement is being requested.
