DeLand Grant Program Applications Now Available

Total CRA Grant Funds Available: $20,000

Total Gateway Grant Funds Available:  $20,000

Application deadline: Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.

The CITY OF DELAND, through the MainStreet DeLand Association, is now accepting applications for six competitive grant programs designed to encourage building improvements within the downtown redevelopment area. Grant application packages are available from MainStreet DeLand Association located on the first floor of the Fish Building located at 100 N. Woodland Boulevard, Suite 4, DeLand. They are also available at the first floor reception counter in the Building Division Department at DeLand City Hall located at 120 South Florida Avenue.   A total of $20,000 in grant funds is available to be awarded among the six different CRA Grant Programs. There is also $20,000 available for the City Gateway Grant Program. Please submit all completed applications for either program to the MainStreet DeLand Association before November 1, 2018.

PLEASE NOTE: It is the full expectation that all awarded grant projects will be completed with all documentation specified as necessary for payment submitted to the City of DeLand no later than September 30, 2019.  

 

Thursday, November 1,  2018 at 4:00 p.m., is the deadline for submitting completed applications for funding to MainStreet DeLand Association.   It is anticipated that the MainStreet Grant Committee will meet in November and that grant applications will be considered for approval by the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency in late November or early December of 2018.

Downtown DeLand Grant Programs

At least once per year and contingent upon funding, the CITY OF DELAND,through the MainStreet DeLand Association,provides six competitive grant programs designed to encourage building improvements within the downtown redevelopment area.Also contingent upon funding the City provides a Gateway Grant Program.

A detailed summary of each grant program and maps of the CRA and Gateway Districtsare provided below or at the MainStreet DeLand website www.MainStreetDeLand.org.

Lighting Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners and merchants for providing safe, pedestrian friendly exterior store front lighting and also for providing rear building lighting. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $1, 000.

Residential Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that create new residential units. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5,000.

Retail Grants

Matching Grants are available that are designed to assist downtown property owners that create or retain existing retail business or convert office/service occupancy to retail. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2,500.

Upper Floor Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that refurbish upper floors for use as retail, office, service or residential or any combination of these categories.  Creation of storage or warehouse space is not eligible. Projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5,000.

Façade Grants - CRA

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that rehabilitate exterior facades, particularly store fronts.  Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2,500.

Underutilized Building Grants - CRA

Grants are available to downtown property owners that rehabilitate buildings that have been vacant for two or more years.  Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 25% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $30,000. Due to funding limitations, the maximum amount that may be awarded this fiscal year is $20,000

Underutilized Building Grant Application

Green Options Supplement for City Grants

In an effort to encourage environmentally friendly projects a “Green Options Supplement” may be applied for as part of all grant applications in the Downtown DeLand CRA and the Gateway Grant programs. This program will provide an additional incentive to grantees if their projects follow energy efficient construction practices. In order to qualify the grantees must provide required documentation. Gateway Grants - Non CRA Grant Program

Matching Grants are available property owners that renovate commercial properties in the Gateway Districts in the City of DeLand. A listing of the Gateway Districts is attached. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5,000

Additional Information

Unless there are unusual circumstances, work on grant projects may not commence before the grant application is approved by the Community Redevelopment Agency, and required permits and forms filed with MainStreet Deland Association.  

The amount of the grant award may be increased for projects following “green construction guidelines.”  The application form should clearly stipulate that the green supplement is being requested.
