Citizen Advisory Boards
The establishment of committees and boards appointed by the City Commission provides ongoing citizen input to major policy areas, provides ongoing recommendations regarding special program areas, and solicits community input on current issues. The City Commission benefits by using committees and boards in their decision-making process by relying on these boards to focus attention on specific issues, encourage broad citizen participation through public hearings, weigh community values in making recommendations to the Commission, and thoroughly research and review alternatives to accompany formal recommendations to the Commission. The City Commission occasionally forms ad hoc committees to address specific issues of concern.
Terms expire on the various boards at regular intervals. In addition, vacancies may be created from time to time when members resign from boards. Announcements of board vacancies are announced at City Commission meetings and posted on the City’s website. Most boards or committees require City residency, but there are opportunities for non-residents on some of the boards. Persons interested in applying for a City board or committee may check the website periodically for current vacancies.
