The historic City of DeLand is situated in central Florida along Interstate 4 between the cities of Daytona Beach and Orlando.   As the seat of Volusia County, DeLand covers 17.6 square miles and is surrounded by 150 lakes, the St. Johns River,and beautiful state and local parks.   The Atlantic Ocean is only a short drive east.  Orlando International Airport is approximately an hour drive and Daytona Beach International Airport and Orlando-Sanford International Airport are even closer.  Port Canaveral, the secondbusiest multiday cruise port in the world, is an hour and a half southeast.  DeLand’s 32,775 residents enjoy access to excellent schools, reasonably-priced housing, a safe, family-friendly environment, and the small-town, neighborly feel of the community with the benefits of big-city amenities nearby.

DeLand is the quintessential college town and home to Stetson University's main campus. Stetson University, just ranked the 5th best regional university in the south, is located in the heart of the City’s National Historic District and offers a variety of community events contributing to the lively, energetic spirit of the City.  

The City has a charming historic downtown lined with unique gift shops and restaurants. Special events focus on culture and the arts, history, hospitality, and lifestyle.   Around town you can stop in at various establishments such as Café da Vinci and the Abbey to take in live music.   An outstanding offering of cultural activities, recreation, and family-friendly entertainment keep DeLand at the top of the list of best places to live year after year.  The City hosts about 75 events and fairs annually, including the Volusia County Fair, which attracts around 250,000 attendees every year, and the DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts, which draws more than 50,000 visitors to the area.  The City is known as the skydiving capital of the world and hosts individual, team,military and sport sky divers.  The Athens Theatre, a restored historic gem, features professional and CommunityTheater, musicals, and concerts.

 

As Florida is well-known for its natural beauty and plentiful water supply, central Florida has some of the best springs in the country. DeLeon Springs, just 15 minutes north of DeLand, is the main attraction of the 625-acre DeLeon Springs State Park and provides fun activities for all ages,including snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and bow fishing.   The famous Blue Spring can be found southwest of DeLand and is the centerpiece of the popular Blue Spring State Park.  Here you can enjoy interactive water activities and explore dazzling underwater caves.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university with a major in Civil Engineering or related field is required.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in design, construction and maintenance of sanitary sewer and water systems is required.

Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.

An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.
