A volunteer orientation meeting will be offered later this month as The Bridge crisis shelter and day services center gets closer to its opening.

A volunteer orientation meeting will be offered later this month as The Bridge crisis shelter and day services center gets closer to its opening.

 

The meeting, which will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 30,is open to anyone interested in volunteering at The Bridge and will go over needs and responsibilities of volunteers as the shelter prepares to open in the first quarter of 2020.

 

The meeting will be in the sanctuary at First Christian Church, 1401 West New York Avenue, DeLand, FL, 32720.

 

The Bridge will offer 30 crisis center beds, a communal dining area and commercial kitchen, showers,offices and space to provide coordinated entry and case management, mental health and drug abuse counseling, job counseling, medical care, haircuts,showers and laundry. The goal of this coordinated and comprehensive approach is to transition people to housing within 30 to 90 days.   

 

Construction of The Bridge isbeing funded by Volusia County government. Staff from the Neighborhood Center will manage the day-to-day operations while all West Volusia cities as well as numerous businesses, churches and area stakeholders have committed to fund those operations and provide volunteer support.
