Utility customer billing discrepancy corrected

A clerical error was discovered that resulted in many of the city’s utilities customers being under-billed for sewer service in September.

Utility customer billing discrepancy corrected

 

(DeLand, FL) – A clerical error was discovered that resulted in many of the city’s utilities customers being under-billed for sewer service in September.

 

The discrepancy was discovered Tuesday, September 11 and corrected the same day.

 

It was found that sewer rates had been adjusted at the end of the August in anticipation of the upcoming fiscal year 2018-19 but the rates inadvertently reverted back to the prior year 2016-17. A total of 12,925 customers were under-billed at a rate of $.16 per thousand gallons.

 

Current bill rates have been adjusted to reflect the correct rate and customers will not be back-billed.

 

Additionally, more than 300 customers were over-billed for sewer usage. Those customers were given a credit in the amount they were over-billed.
