(DeLand, FL) – Todd Allen has been chosen as the next fire chief for the City of DeLand.
Allen, 47, has most recently served as Fire Chief for the city of Freeport, Illinois.
Allen’s selection came after a national search for a fire chief following the tragic passing of Chief Dan Hanes in October.
“I am excited about joining the community and serving the great citizens of DeLand,” Allen said. “The department has been through a lot in the last year, but I feel it is headed in the right direction. I hope to help continue the forward momentum.”
Chief Allen is a 27 year veteran of the fire service with vast experience in both fire administration and all-hazards operations. He is expected to start in the position beginning April 15.
Chief Allen holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Waldorf University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration from Western Illinois University, and an Associate of Fire Science. In addition, Chief Allen is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program and possesses the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation through the Commission on Professional Credentialing. Chief Allen has extensive backgrounds in fire and EMS operations and worked extensively with regional technical rescue teams in Illinois. He has served on in-state committees in Illinois for EMS and State USAR (IL-TF1).Chief Allen has served on an advisory committee for his local Salvation Army.
Chief Allen is married to his wife Heather (a former firefighter/paramedic), and they are proud parents of four adult children located all throughout the U.S. The couple enjoys the outdoors and physical fitness activities.
