Nick Conte has been named the city’s Economic Development Manager.

Conte will start his new position on January 21. He steps into the role following the retirement of Steve Burley, who served as Economic Development Manager for six years.

Conte comes to DeLand after serving as Economic Development Director for the City of Holly Hill, where he facilitated business expansion projects for Florida Health Care Plans and Madden Ace Hardware and helped new business development including Red Pig Craft Brewery, Simply Gina’s Restaurant,RPS Catering and Flight Gymnastics.

Before working for the City of Holly Hill, Conte served for about five years as executive director for the DeLand area Chamber of Commerce and Orange City Alliance.

“I’m proud of the work we did here and am grateful to Joe Forte (City Manager) and the City Commission for supporting these development efforts,” Conte said of his time in Holly Hill. He credited DeLand’s previous two economic development managers, Burley and Bob Turk, for their mentorship.

“To have the opportunity to return to serve the DeLand community is an honor and having a chance to build upon the foundation they began is very special for me, personally.”

“We’re excited to have Nick on our team,” said City Manager Michael Pleus. “Through his time with the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Holly Hill, Nick has proven his ability to help our businesses grow and expand as well as to recruit new businesses to our great community. I look forward to working with him to continue the momentum we have going in DeLand.”
