Groundbreaking for the Dr. Joyce M. Cusack Resource Center

(DeLand, FL) – Officials on Friday broke ground at the future site of the Dr. Joyce M. Cusack Resource Center, expected to be complete by the end of 2019.

The facility, which will be located at 481 West Mathis Street, is moving from its current building on South Adelle Avenue. Currently, it provides a number of services that can be obtained by Spring Hill residents including assistance with job searches, resume creation, unemployment compensation, school supplies, healthy living and other income-based assistance programs.

In addition to a new physical location, the resource center is being named after Dr. Joyce M. Cusack, who served four terms in the Florida House of Representatives and then served two terms on the Volusia County Council until her retirement in 2018.

“The resource center has always been a lifeline for residents in need of assistance,” said Mayor Robert F. Apgar. “It is fitting that the resource center be named after Ms. Cusack, who has been a longtime supporter and advocate for the DeLand area.”

Once complete, the 3,250-square foot resource center will include a large multipurpose room, commercial kitchen, computer lab, health room, a large porch and office space for staff.
