(DeLand, FL) – The city is set to kick off the holiday season in a big way this weekend.
At 5:30 p.m. Friday, December 6, the city will light the city Christmas tree in the Willie Bright Plaza outside City Hall, 120 South Florida Avenue. The local forecast is calling for a chance of snow that evening in the plaza and the Volusia Community Symphony will be performing festive tunes.
After the tree lighting, Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance and will lead a convoy to help light the Downtown DeLand Christmas tree at Pioneer Park (corner of East Rich Avenue and North Woodland Boulevard),and will stick around to hear what children are requesting for Christmas.
The event downtown will also feature the sounds of carolers and downtown merchants will be open for people to take care of their Christmas shopping.
On Saturday, December 7, the Rotary Clubs of DeLand will present the 71st Annual DeLand Christmas Parade, which will start at 5:30 p.m. that evening. The parade route will be from Michigan Avenue to Hubbard Avenue.
For the parade, Woodland Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 3 p.m. from Plymouth to Beresford Avenue and will reopen after 8:30 p.m.
