DeLand Fire, Police to honor fallen at 9/11 Ceremony
(DeLand, FL) – Residents will have the opportunity to join the city as we remember the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks.
The city will gather for the 18th Anniversary of 9/11 with a ceremony in the Willie Bright Civic Plaza outside City Hall, 120 South Florida Avenue. DeLand Fire, DeLand Police, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the VFW and Police Explorers will all have an honor guard present at the event.
The ceremony will begin at 8:15 a.m. with the DeLand Fire Department leading a procession along with the fire department’s Bagpipe and Drum Corps with bells tolled throughout the morning to mark significant events that occurred on 9/11.
A retired Major from the New York Police Department, who lost nine colleagues on 9/11, is also expected to be in attendance. a total of 412 American flags will adorn the plaza lawn to mark the number of emergency workers who perished during the initial attacks,
The conclusion of the main ceremony will be marked with a War Bird flyover.
