Residents are invited to join the DeLand Fire Department as it “pushes” a new fire engine into service.
The push-in ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, January 10 at Fire Station 83, 1655 East Taylor Road, DeLand. The new unit will run out of Station 83 and will service southeast DeLand.
The ceremony harkens back to when fire departments had horse-drawn carriages that would have to be manually pushed back into the stations.
As the new fire engine is brought online, the fire department will also retire the older Engine 83, which gave over a decade of service to the community.
Light refreshments and photo opportunities will be available.
