Construction to begin on West Indiana Avenue Landscaping Improvements project
(DeLand, FL) – Construction is set to begin next week on improvements to the West Indiana Avenue streetscape.
The West Indiana Avenue Landscaping Improvements project, which includes replacing the existing trees along that portion of the road, will begin Monday and is expected to last through September. The project limits will be from Woodland Boulevard and Florida Avenue.
For the duration of construction, there will be no parking on West Indiana and the road will only be open to business traffic such as deliveries. All businesses along the road will remain open and will have pedestrian access. Benches and art sculptures on West Indiana Avenue have been temporarily relocated to other spots in the city during construction.
The existing streetscape was completed around 1990, but since then the Drake Elm trees that had been planted there have died and some remain under-developed.
Green Construction Technologies Inc. was awarded the contract for the project. In addition to planting new trees along the road, the contractor will replace the existing concrete pavement and pavers around those areas. Also, new soil will be installed to promote healthy root growth for the new trees.
