(DeLand, FL) - The City of DeLand and Stetson University are preparing to host its first-ever NCAA Baseball Regional as the Hatter baseball team looks to extend its historic season and advance to the College Baseball World Series. On Sunday, DeLand’s Melching Field at Conrad Park was chosen as one of 16 host sites for the NCAA Regionals.

Stetson (45-11) was selected as the No. 11 National Seed. The DeLand Region also features the University of South Florida (35-20-1), Oklahoma State University (29-24-1), and Hartford (26-29).

Stetson will play Hartford at 7 p.m. Friday and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.  Subsequent games will be played on Saturday and Sunday with one game on Monday, if necessary.

“We are thrilled for the Stetson University and its baseball program. We hope that DeLand fans will pack the stadium and root for the Hatters to continue their run in the DeLand Region” said Mayor Robert F. Apgar. “As a city, we are excited to host one of the 16 NCAA Regionals. We’d like to extend a warm welcome to the University of South Florida, Oklahoma State University and University of Hartford teams and their fans. Between games we encourage those fans to enjoy our community and our downtown which last year was voted Best Main Street in America.”

“The economic benefit to the West Volusia community is huge. Some area hotels are already indicating that they are fully occupied this coming weekend. The City of DeLand is looking forward to being showcased to the college baseball world and nation.”

Melching Field at Conrad Park was completed in 1999 and has a seating capacity of 2,500. In addition to serving as the home for Stetson, the stadium also hosts the DeLand Suns and DeLand High School games.
