Police Department's Citizen Police Academy
The DeLand Police
Department is pleased to announce the popular Citizen Police Academy.
The cost to participate is $20.00 per student. The fee is applied
to the graduation dinner and ceremony.
The Citizen Police
Academy offers a twelve-week curriculum that provides educational
and practical experience in such topics as: officer selection and
training, laws of arrest, search and seizure, crime statistics,
special operations, patrol operations, violent crimes, property
crimes, DUI detection, narcotics investigations, evidence collection,
use of the police K-9, and special problems in law enforcement.
Highlights of the academy also include the opportunity to ride-a-long
with an on duty Police Officer and to participate in structured
firing exercises at the police range. Class participants will tour
the DeLand Police Department and be a part of several hands on demonstrations
over the twelve-week course including a mock court session. This
program will be offered on a first come basis and is limited to
twenty (20) students.
