DeLand Police Department's Citizen Police Academy

The DeLand Police Department is pleased to announce the popular Citizen Police Academy. The cost to participate is $20.00 per student. The fee is applied to the graduation dinner and ceremony.

The Citizen Police Academy offers a twelve-week curriculum that provides educational and practical experience in such topics as: officer selection and training, laws of arrest, search and seizure, crime statistics, special operations, patrol operations, violent crimes, property crimes, DUI detection, narcotics investigations, evidence collection, use of the police K-9, and special problems in law enforcement. Highlights of the academy also include the opportunity to ride-a-long with an on duty Police Officer and to participate in structured firing exercises at the police range. Class participants will tour the DeLand Police Department and be a part of several hands on demonstrations over the twelve-week course including a mock court session. This program will be offered on a first come basis and is limited to twenty (20) students.

If you would like to gain personal insight into the field of Law Enforcement and be a part of this cooperative effort between the police department and the community, please contact Officer Rod Hancock at (386)740-5885 or TaShawn Turner at (386)740-5887.
