General Information - Honor Guard

Honor Guard

Purpose of the Honor Guard

The fire service is very rich in tradition, honor, and integrity . The Honor Guard has many functions and responsibilities but first and foremost is being ready to respond if we suffer the loss of one of our brothers or sisters . This is a most solemn duty and one we certainly hope we never have to carry out . However in a profession such as fire rescue, men and women all over the world face this very real danger on a daily basis . If the unthinkable happens and a firefighter makes the ultimate sacrifice, he or she is entitled to the most honorable tribute we can arrange . This is why we train on a regular basis . We train and hope we don't get "the" call to duty . Thankfully we also have other duties such as leading the annual Christmas Parade, and posting the "colors" during National Night Out ceremony . In general we represent the City of DeLand Fire Department in whatever ceremonious role we are asked to perform .

The DeLand Fire Department Honor Guard has six active members on this team and meets and drills quarterly . The team plans to continue their training and compete at the Fire-Rescue East conference in 2007 .
