CHARTER REFERENDUM ELECTION ON 11-4-08!!!!!

Charter Referendum –The City of DeLand will be proposing amendments to its Charter which will be brought for consideration by the voters at a Special Referendum Election to be held on November 4, 2008.
The following question will appear on the ballot for the Charter Referendum Election:
Amendment to DeLand's Charter scheduling election dates to coincide with Florida Election Code.
Shall DeLand's Charter be amended to create economic efficiencies and increase voter turn-out by changing election dates and qualifying dates to even-numbered years in order for municipal elections to coincide with federal, state and county elections?

Logic & Accuracy Tests – In accordance with Section 101.5612 F.S., the Volusia County Department of Elections will conduct public, pre-election tests of the automatic tabulating equipment which will be used for early voting and at the polls for the November 4, 2008 municipal Charter Referendum Election.All of the tests will be held in the Department of Elections warehouse, which is located at 2550 West Highway 44, Building 14, DeLand, Florida, at the following time(s).Both tests are open to the public and you are welcome to attend.

Canvassing Board – pursuant to State law, the Volusia County Canvassing Board will canvass the returns of the City's Charter Referendum Election.For information regarding the specifics of the Canvassing Board meetings, please contact the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections (386)736-5930.

VOTER REGISTRATION :
Voter Registration Applications can be obtained from the Department of Elections, local financial institutions, public libraries, drivers license bureaus, Chambers of Commerce, and other locations.Applications can be returned by mail and must be postmarked 29 days prior to the date of the election in order to vote in that election.They may also be hand-delivered to the Volusia County Elections Office or to a public library at least 29 days to prior to the date of the election.Contact the Volusia County Elections Office for more information and for special requirements for first time voters registering by mail.
Book Closing – The last day to register to vote in the November 4, 2008 election is October 6, 2008.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS - Voters who are unable to visit the polls on Election Day may request absentee ballots from the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections (736-5930).
