MAINTENANCE WORKER II

Reports to: Foreman
Hours: 40 per week

SUMMARY:   This position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks under general supervision of a foreman, lead worker, or other higher level classified employees.  Duties may involve the use of hand and power tools and the operation of light truck and construction equipment as a part of the assignment.  Duties may be performed under adverse weather or working conditions.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Possesses a C.D.L. needed class B.
  • Performs duties such as laying pipe, pouring and forming concrete, installing water meters, repairing broken water lines, mowing, fence maintenance, digging, cleaning, and erecting barricades.
  • Makes taps on water mains, installs sewage lines, repair lawn sprinklers, and uses an air hammer to break up concrete.
  • Ability to paint buildings and equipment, repairs and constructs simple structures, maintains a swimming pool, performs simple maintenance on automotive vehicles and equipment, cleans sewer mains, and performs a variety of yard maintenance activities.
  • Performs routine custodial work and does minor repairs.
  • Performs tasks found in Maintenance Worker- Level I.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Some experience in manual labor is preferable in work which involves hand tools and simple power tools used in the construction trades. High school graduation is desirable, but a comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.  


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to work independently in a diligent manner.
  • Knowledge of simple hand and power tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA:  This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving.  The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions.  Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty conditions, with hands, feet, and/or legs in water and may handle chemicals.
