Vehicle Burglaries

Date of Occurrence- Friday 01/08/11 – Saturday 01/09/11

Affected Areas – N. University Circle, 600 Block N. Kentucky Ave,

Information: During the late hours of 01/08/11 and the early morning of 01/09/11, several vehicle burglaries occurred on N. University Cir and in the 600 Block of N. Kentucky Ave.

All the vehicles affected were entered by way of an unlocked door. Items stolen included cell phones, electronics, car stereos. Several pieces of stolen items were located in areas not far from the victim’s home.

Here are a few safety reminders for keeping your vehicle safe:

·       Remove all your electronics from plain view. Either secure them in your residence with you or lock them up in the trunk. Suction marks left on your windshield are a tell- tale sign that you have a satellite radio or GPS system.

·       Make sure that all windows are secure and doors locked.

·       If you have an alarm system for your vehicle make sure that it is tuned on

·       If possible lock your vehicle in the garage.

·       Never leave your garage door opener unattended in the vehicle. If a thief gets it, they could enter your home.

·       Park your vehicle under a security light or motion sensor light.

·       Make sure that you have the model number and serial number for your electronic items in a secure place in case they are stolen from your vehicle.

If you see any time of suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please call the DeLand Police Department at (386) 734-1711 and report it.
