Chief Ridgway started his career with the DeLand Police Department in 1989. During his tenure he has served in both the operations and special operations divisions. His assignments have included Narcotics Detective/ K-9 Handler, Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Investigative Sergeant and Criminal Investigative Lieutenant. He served as the Deputy Chief of Operations since 2007, and was promoted to Chief in January 2011
Chief Ridgway is a graduate of the 224th session of the FBI National Academy. In addition, he has earned a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Organizational Business Management from Warner Southern University. He advocates coupling enforcement actions with educational campaigns based in community policing philosophies.
He is a member of the Volusia/Flagler Police Chief’s Association, Florida Police Chief’s Association, and the FBI National Academy Alumni Association. He has served as the Chairman of the DeLand Police Officer’s Pension Board since 2000. He was also appointed by the Florida Police Chief’s Association in 2007 to serve as their representative on the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information Systems (CJJIS) Council Committee. In 2009 he was also appointed to serve on the Florida Police Chief’s Association’s Legislative Committee.
