Police Chief finalist interview schedule
(DeLand, FL) – Interviews and town hall sessions with the finalists for DeLand Police Chief will be Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12.
The city’s selection committee will interview the six finalists over the course of two days while the public will have two opportunities to meet the candidates at town hall meetings later in the evening at the Chisholm Center and Sanborn Center, respectively.
The committee interviews are open for the public to observe and the public will be given the opportunity to ask questions at the town hall sessions.
The committee will then meet 6 p.m. April 13 at the Sanborn Center following the interviews to discuss offering the position to one of the candidates. City Manager Michael Pleus will ultimately be the one to appoint the next police chief.

April 11 at the Chisholm Center, 520 S. Clara Avenue, DeLand
2 p.m. – Interview with Dave Brannon, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office
3:30 p.m. – Interview with Lenn Carter, Denton, Texas, Police Department
6-9 p.m. – Town Hall session moderated by Stanley Whitted, retired Volusia County educator, and Judy Thompson, community volunteer and president of the Museum of Art, DeLand
April 12 at the Sanborn Center, 815 S. Alabama Avenue, DeLand
8 a.m. – Interview with Mike Coffin, New Smyrna Beach Police Department
9:30 a.m. – Interview with Kevin Gyrion, Clinton, Iowa, Police Department
11 a.m. – Interview with David Sklarek, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office
2 p.m. – Interview with Jason Umberger, Swatara Township, Pennsylvania, Police Department
6-9 p.m. – Town Hall session moderated by Pat Rice, Editor for The Daytona Beach News-Journal and Barb Shepherd, Publisher and CEO of The West Volusia Beacon
April 13 at the Sanborn Center
6 p.m. – Selection Committee to discuss final recommendation to City Manager
