SUMMARY:   This position acts as a superintendent on all city work orders and skilled construction work, and provides ongoing lead work direction to skilled carpentry, laborer, and other facilities maintenance employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Supervises execution of all work orders.
  • Communicates with City Tenants.
  • Inspects and communicates with contractors on outside work.
  • Oversees carpentry hand and power tools to ensure their safe and efficient operation by inspecting the equipment daily and weekly.
  • Reviews construction, remodeling, and repair project plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Completes cost estimates for time, labor, and materials.
  • Prioritizes budgets, and schedules construction and remodeling and repair projects.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required, and a minimum of seven (7) years experience working in the maintenance field.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  The applicant must have the ability to read and interpret instructions from supervisor, safety manuals, work orders, blueprints, schematics, maps, financial reports, legal documents, memos and operation guides for any type of machinery/equipment.

REASONING ABILITLY:  The applicant must be able to compute general math, and shop math including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and fractions.  The applicant must also be able to relay important information to others, speak publicly, and explain theory, principles, and practices of profession to laymen.






OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of standard construction practices of carpentry trade.
  • Ability to operate and supervise operation of most construction related tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of all safety procedures in reference to all machinery/equipment required for carpentry work.
  • Possess a valid Florida driver’s license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work in extreme cold or inclimate weather conditions.  Employee may be required to traverse on uneven ground, and must have finger dexterity, depth perception, balance, and the ability to lift 45 lbs frequently.
