The DeLand Fire Department takes pride in providing and maintaining a highly trained, technically skilled workforce. Our emergency operations personnel are required to be certified by the State of Florida as Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. In addition, they are required to complete a 12 month probationary training period during their first year of employment, consisting of evaluations every three months during that time.

Fire Department Driver Engineers are trained in emergency vehicle operation, pump operation, aerial operations and hydraulics. They are required to be certified by the State of Florida as Pump Operators, prior to operating the department apparatus.

Our Commanders are assigned to manage departmental divisions, respond to complex calls and to provide operational oversight for each respective shift. Lieutenants are assigned to each fire station and serve as the station supervisor for all daily emergencies and activities. All fire department officers receive routine and continual training on organizational principles, leadership, ethics, command and supervision. Lieutenants are required to be certified by the State of Florida as a Fire Officers.

The Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief are seasoned professionals, with college graduate education and decades of fire and emergency service experience. Together with the administrative support staff, they work to provide an organizational framework that will allow the department to deliver quality services while remaining fiscally responsible. Through the implementation of policies, procedures, good communication and training, the fire department administration establishes the direction for organizational success.
