Business Incentive Programs
The City offers several grant programs and incentives to businesses within the downtown business district.  Please contact Bob Turk for more information, (386) 626-7021 / or  to contact via the web, click here.



Gateway Grants

Matching Grants are available property owners that renovate commercial properties in the Gateway Districts in the City of DeLand. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2500.

The Grant Deadline for the current fiscal year is December 21, 2012. Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Consistency of the project with established guidelines:
  • Improving the appearance of the building exterior
  • Repainting discolored buildings
  • Repainting buildings from loud or garish colors to earth tones or pastels
  • Adding landscape buffers where none exist
  • Adding tree islands or landscape islands in parking lots
  • Replacement of non conforming signs.



Lighting Grants

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners and merchants for providing exterior Store Front Lighting and also for providing rear building lighting. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $1000.

The Grant Deadline for the current fiscal year is December 21, 2012. Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Consistency of the project with established architectural guidelines.
  • Consistency with established priorities which are:
  • Increase sidewalk lighting to provide pedestrian safety.
  • Increase rear lighting to provide a higher level of security
  • Fixtures shall compliment the building and the Historic District.



Residential Grants

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that create new residential units. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $5000.

The Grant Deadline for the current fiscal year is December 21, 2012. Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Consistency of the project with established architectural guidelines.
  • Consistency with established priorities which are:
  • Conversion of non-residential to residential occupancy
  • Rehabilitation of unoccupied space to residential occupancy
  • Construction of new residential units in the tax Increment District.



Retail Grants

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that create additional retail occupancies. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2500.

The Grant Deadline for the current fiscal year is December 21, 2012. Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Consistency of the project with established architectural guidelines.
  • Consistency with established priorities which are:
  • Removal of interior office designed construction
  • Installation of retail designed construction features
  • Installation or rehabilitation of doors or windows



Upper Floor Grants

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that create additional retail occupancies. Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2500.

The Grant Deadline for the current fiscal year is December 21, 2012. Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Consistency of the project with established guidelines:
  • Creation of viable commercial leasehold space on the upper floor of an existing building.
  • Retail, office, service or residential occupancy is eligible.
  • Storage or warehouse space is ineligible.



Façade Grants

Matching Grants are available to downtown property owners that rehabilitate store fronts.  Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 50% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $2500.

The Grant Deadline for the current fiscal year is December 21, 2012. Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Consistency of the project with established architectural guidelines.
  • Consistency with established priorities which are:
  • Installation or rehabilitation of doors or windows.
  • Signage for new or existing business.
  • Repainting that is consistent with approved Historic color scheme.



Underutilized Building Grants

Grants are available to downtown property owners that rehabilitate buildings that have been vacant for two or more years.  Eligible projects may receive awards of up to 25% of the total project cost with no single grant exceeding $30,000. Applicants may apply for grants for the same project for two consecutive years allowing a total grant for multiple years in the amount of $60,000.

The Grant Deadline for the current fiscal year is December 21, 2012. Grant awards will be based on the following criteria:

  • Consistency of the project with established architectural guidelines.
  • Consistency with established priorities which are:
  • Compliance with ADA.
  • Compliance with Life Safety Codes.
  • Compliance the Building Codes.
  • Other building rehabilitation projects
